Olive Trees

Introduction:

Did you know that olives grow on trees? Well they do! Here in Aix, olive trees are everywhere. They are beautiful to look at and they provide for a tasty snack, once processed of course. Olives are cooked into bread, made into dips and eaten just as they are. You can find these foods in most bakeries and at parties.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The trunk of olive trees are rather thin. Instead of growing in width, these trees grow offshoots. This ends up looking like there are a lot of olive trees growing out of one spot. The leaves are usually a soft green color and oval-shaped.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

The first time I saw an olive tree I was amazed! Olives are my favorite snack and to see them growing in nature was exciting. At first, I thought that I could go olive picking and that I would be able to eat fresh picked olives. This is not the case. Olives are essentia'ly inedible until they are processed. I was disappointed to find this out. The trees are still beautiful to look at.

Where does it live?:

Olive trees are grown all over the Mediterranean. Provence has beautiful olive trees across the area. This means that they are in the town where I live. You can see them in people's backyards, in landscaping in the city and growing wild in nature.
