I am taking art classes while I am here, so my favorite activity this week was learning how to make a clay turtle during ceramics class!
I am currently reading a book called Blackwater by Michael McDowell, which is a southern gothic novel set in Alabama. I picked it up randomly in a bookstore here in the hopes of improving my Portuguese reading level. I’m enjoying the challenge so far!
I always keep a deck of cards with me so my friends and I can play a card game when we go out to eat or have some down time.
In other news this week, the local community is dealing with a Chikungunya outbreak. Chikungunya is a tropical, mosquito spread disease. The local government is taking steps to mitigate the outbreak by reducing standing water, encouraging people to clean up their lawns and cut the grass, and collecting vaccines to be distributed soon. In the meantime, we're all wearing extra bugspray and using citronella candles when we're outside! This helps prevent mosquito bites.
