Hey all. This week, I am back in München after being in the US for a bit. I visited a bunch of miscellaneous places without an intended theme that I hope you all find interesting.
On one of my days here, I traveled to the area surrounding Sendlinger Tor, which is a U-Bahn (Subway) station in München. The gate that is pictured marked the edge of München at one point, being a part of a wall complex that the city in its modern iteration has extended far beyond. Now, this location sits almost in the heart of München, only being a short walk from the main attractions in the area, such as Odeonsplatz and Marienplatz, where many important events in München's history have occurred. The main shopping district is also in this area, and correspondingly, most of the tourists.
I traveled to this region to visit the Asamkirche, which is a church in the Baroque style from the 1700s and was privately built by a pair of brothers who lived next door. The inside is quite intricate, as one can see in the photo. It also has glass in a curved shape on the outside, which was quite difficult to achieve for the time. Sadly, the church was partially closed when I visited, so I was not able to see the entire thing.
