This week’s article is going to be about Botswana’s food culture. They get their food from local grocery stores, such as Spar, or they eat out at local restaurants around the village. The village I am currently located in is Serowe, where we have the Serowe Hotel as our only sit-down restaurant place.
Many people will also sell fruits and vegetables along the side of the road as vendors, especially here in Serowe at a place called Old Mall. They will typically sell onions, apples, mangos, potatoes and other fruits and vegetables they grow from their local gardens and farms.
When it comes to food, we, of course, first have to talk about breakfast. Traditional Botswanan breakfast consists of eggs, toast, baked beans and spicy chicken mixed with vegetables and beef.
Next, we move on to lunch or snack time. Botswana does not seem to have a heavy designated lunch time during the day. It seems like breakfast and dinner are their two heavy meals that they eat per day, and in between those meals, they will snack on fruit, vegetables, granola bars, yogurt or something else.
