Würstelstands (Würstelstande in German) are traditional Austrian street food kiosks that sells hot sausages, hot dogs, drinks, and cuisine. And when I say they're on every street, I mean they're on every street. Hungry after watching a concert? There's one right there. Famished after practicing for several hours? There's one right outside the practice facility. From Frankfurter to Waldviertler, you're sure to get a filling meal that'll satisfy you after a long day's work.
I tried the Käsekrainer: a smoked sausage with cheese filling. Austrians typically have them with mustard and peppers, but for my first time I played it safe with the standard ketchup and mustard. I ignorantly assumed that it would taste similar or identical to the hot dogs we have in the United States, but I was pleasantly surprised.
After trying it, I felt absolutely divine. I would give a warning before trying it, because you will become addicted fast. Biting into it, the flavor melts in your mouth right away, and the carefully chosen mixtures of seasoning give a wonderful taste without bombarding you with too much.
