One activity my family likes to do is to watch T.V. dramas together. We are currently watching the American show Once Upon a Time with Japanese subtitles.
Since Itami City is over 30 miles from Kyoto, it takes me two hours one-way to get to my university. I take four train lines to get into Kyoto, and then I ride my bike around the university. Traveling to work or school by train is common in Japan, even for middle school students. However, most students don’t have to travel four hours every day.
I like to wear jeans and shirts. The clothes that Japanese people wear on a daily basis are similar to the clothes Americans wear. On special occasions like weddings, Japanese people will wear a kimono, which is a traditional piece of clothing that goes from your shoulder to your knees.
When I am not studying or doing homework, I play board games and card games. One of my favorite games is Go, a Japanese game that is like chess but much harder. Other games I like are Dobble and Camel Up.
I speak Japanese and English. Japanese was my first language, and I started learning English in elementary school. I try my best in English class because I like speaking with foreigners, knowing that English will also be helpful in the future. “Hello” in Japanese is konnichiwa.
