Food Insecurity in Brazil

According to the federal government, there was an 85% decrease, from 17 million to 2 million, in the number of people facing severe food insecurity in the country between 2022 and 2023. Even with recent improvements, a substantial number of Brazilians still face food insecurity. In 2023, 27.6% of households were food insecure to some extent, with 4.1% experiencing severe food insecurity. Food insecurity in Brazil stems from a variety of factors, including climate change and its impact on agriculature, social inequalities, low wages, high food prices, extreme storms and extreme periods of drought.
