Women's Treatment in Brazilian Healthcare
Although Brazil has a free national healthcare system, unlike the .U.S., not all healthcare is accessible to women. In Brazil, it is illegal to recieve or perform an abortion, regardless of the gestational age of the fetus, the age of the pregnant person or their situation. Due to COVID-19 and the responses of the Brazilian government to the pandemic, Brazil has the highest rate of maternal mortality of any country. According to the N.I.H., out of all the pregnant people who passed in 2021, the majority (59%) of the total had no previous comorbities or risk factors. There are also few, mostly underfunded, clinics that are accessible to handle the growing rate of mental health conditions of Brazilian women.
