They were merely the result of cultural and social norms that differ from mine back home. While at first I felt compelled to react by dismissing or being annoyed, I quickly realized that nothing productive would come from that. Now, when approached, I use the questions as an opportunity to engage in casual conversations about gender roles, the importance of equality and the work that I do and am capable of doing.
