Glimpsing Nature in the City

I had to walk over it very carefully, because I don't know much about how leaf bugs act.

Where does it live?:

The hibiscus grows along the trail to the gym. However, It is native to Asia and the Pacific Islands.

The bug is currently living in the stairwell, but the leaf bugs would normally be found living on plants with which it can camouflage itself.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

The hibiscus tends to often be kept for its beauty by humans so it is always taken care of.

The bug uses its body! Just how I thought it was a leaf, so do predators! It is able to camouflage its body from the birds that can be found in Hong Kong.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Not much is after the hibiscus plant besides insects, and this specific plant tended by humans! The leaf bug's camouflage is working and we do not have to be worried about it either. We don't have to worry about either of these species in the wild, either, if we protect our environment! Since the Education University of Hong Kong is one of the most biodiverse universities, the school promotes protecting the environment a lot. The preschool and elementary school on campus spent a day handing out pamphlets about protecting our environment and the kids were dressed in the cutest outfits!
