La Rioja Vineyards

Introduction:

Come explore the nature of the region La Rioja with me! La Rioja is known for its large and beautiful grape vineyards. I can't wait to show you what I've seen!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

The grape vineyards in La Rioja are very large. They are filled with rows of trellised vines, esperalda, often planted along a wire or posts to support them. The vines are brown and green with a thin wooden trunk and heart shaped leaves. This time of year, the vines drape bunches of deep indigo-colored grapes ready to harvest!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

When I first saw the vineyards, I was amazed. I had never seen that many grapes in my life! I was also surprised that the grapes looked different from those in the grocery store. They are much smaller, in larger bunches, are a darker color and have seeds! Most exciting of all, since the harvest was over, any leftover grapes on the vines were free for the taking! I've never had grapes so fresh… yum!

Where does it live?:

The vineyards are located in the fields between the Cantabrian mountains and the city of Logroño. I was shocked to see how close to the city all of the vineyards were found. It is crazy to think that less than a 20 minute drive from the city center there are never-ending fields filled with vines!
