Hello!
My name is Kyle, and I am so excited to share my adventure in Slovenia with you! I grew up on a small farm in New Hampshire, taking care of cows, chickens, and goats. Spending so much time outside made me fall in love with nature early on. During the winters, I raced on the downhill ski team, and in the summer, I spent every free weekend hiking, fishing, and exploring the nature of New England.
When I went to college, I decided to combine my love for the outdoors with my curiosity for technology. I studied computer science and geographic information systems (GIS), which is a fancy way of saying I learned how to build computer maps and software to solve real-world environmental problems. Before moving to Slovenia, I used my mapping skills to research trees in Iceland, study storms in Maine and work for software companies creating mapping technology.
Now, thanks to the U.S. Fulbright Research Award, I am living in Slovenia for this school year. My main mission is to create tools that help local foresters protect their trees. When I'm not coding or flying drones over the trees, you can find me playing flag football, skiing in the mountains, teaching at a local school, cooking new recipes, or learning how to speak Slovene!
I loved being a teaching assistant in college, and I can’t wait to answer your questions, show you what everyday life in Europe is like and explore how technology can help protect our environment. I’m also excited to hear about what you’re learning and doing in your classroom this year!
