Hello, my name is Kyle Benson. I'm 22 years old, from the Bronx, New York, and am traveling to the Galápagos Islands through a Fulbright Fellowship to serve as an English Teaching Assistant.
I recently graduated from Vassar College, where I studied Biology and Economics and developed my aspiration to apply to medical school and become a doctor. While working as an Emergency Medical Technician in New York City, my interactions with many Spanish-speaking patients revealed to me that to become a more impactful future physician, I needed to do more than simply appreciate the many cultures around me. Deciding to venture outside the familiarity of my home of New York City, I saw Fulbright as an opportunity to embrace a culture outside of my own while engaging in mutual learning with students, colleagues, and communities.
With the ultimate goal of becoming a doctor, I am excited to teach English, practice my Spanish, learn from the Ecuadorian medical community, and connect with the country’s culture during my 10-month journey to the island of San Cristóbal! I'm thrilled to share my experience with you as I simultaneously teach and learn in this beautiful, historic environment!
