Finally, there are the trains which connect the different cities in Hungary to Budapest but also connect Hungary with the surrounding countries.
Trains are my personal favorite mode of transportation. While the bus/trolleys/trams are convenient in everyday life, they can often get over-crowded and difficult to maneuver in. Plus, you have to pay careful attention where to get on and off. So many times I have gotten on the bus going the wrong way! But trains are simple, especially if your destination is the final stop.
When taking a train to a new part of Hungary, I am very relaxed. I just get to sit back and read, write or even draw. The train rides I have taken are about 2.5 to 3 hours long, which is a normal trip for me when I'm in Johnson City and want to go home to visit my friends or family. Except instead of feeling stressed about having to drive on the highway, on trains I get to sit back and rest! Sometimes there's even wifi on the trains so I can work on my project or research my destination more. The moment I get onto a train, my body and mind settle down and I feel able to focus.
Now, many locals do not like the trains because they are notoriously late. However, I see it as no different than driving and hitting traffic. Except on a train I'm not the one responsible for the vehicle. If the train breaks down, I might be stuck for a bit but I dont have to worry about paying for the repairs.
