Teen Life: School, Family, Food and Dreams

Introduction:

My friend and fellow Fulbrighter Ariela is an English Teaching assistant, another branch under the same group of grants. She aids the English teachers at her high school with their lesson plans and runs the English Club. She was kind enough to connect me to Lilia (16) and Fatima (17), two young ladies who are very interested in American culture and have an excellent command of English.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

L: “On the weekends, I mostly eat like two eggs and I drink a cup of tea [for breakfast]. Sometimes I go with my friend to Carrefour. It’s just next to the school, so we buy something and eat it in the gare (train station). [For dinner] sometimes I make burritos… it depends. Friday, when I finish -- I do this every week -- I go buy Buldak.”

F: “I don't eat [breakfast] because mostly I don't have time... Like, I just go wake up and get ready and go. For lunch, I eat at school. Most of the time it’s pasta, rice or potatoes. For dinner, most of the time I eat like... a sweet thing.”

What is your house like?:

Both girls live in apartments.

F: “There’s two rooms, and there's a big living room. My mom is Moroccan and my dad is Tunisian, so my mom really did a Moroccan type of house.
