L: “For me, we have three rooms: a kitchen, bathroom and living room. I live with my sister. My younger brother and sister are in Algeria. My parents go and come from Algeria so they can stay with [all of their children].”

What chores do you have at home?:

F: “The thing I do the most is cleaning the dishes, but I don't clean them with my hands. We have a dishwasher... And just like cleaning the table, my room... personal tasks.”

L: “Yeah, same here.”

What jobs do your parents have?:

F: “My mom is a teacher and my dad works in communication.”  

L: “My dad is a businessman and my mom used to work.”

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

L: "For Monday we finish at 6:00 p.m. We start at 9:00 a.m. The others don’t choose the same language as us, so they finish at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday is better! So, in France, in middle school and primary school they don’t have school on Wednesday. But for us in high school, we finish in the middle of the day. Last year I would finish at 10:00 a.m.”

F: "We chose Arabic. That’s why… for Tuesday it’s good. We start from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., then we have a pause [for] two hours. We start again at 2:00 p.m. and finish at 4:00 p.m. The chillest day. And [Wednesday] this year, we do 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.”

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

F: “ I can take the train. Most of the time I take the bus, and then I have to take the metro.
