The farthest I traveled this week was to Osaka and back, which was about an 80-mile round trip by train. It was so crowded that if we hadn’t gotten there early, we would’ve had to stand the whole one-hour ride. Other than that, I’ve been walking and biking all over Kyoto every day, so I think I should add another 20 miles just for that.
If you count where I started, from Denver to San Francisco, then to Osaka, and finally to Kyoto, that’s already about 6,000 miles! When you include all the daily exploring I’ve been doing here, it really starts to add up.
This week, I got around using the bus, the train, walking and riding my bike. My bike is definitely my favorite. It’s free, fast and I don’t have to be packed in tightly with other people like on public transportation.
I would say the most interesting place I visited this week was the Kyoto Botanical Gardens. It’s a 60-acre area with over 12,000 species of plants! I wandered around for almost two hours and still didn’t see everything. It costs about $3 to get in, but that money goes toward helping the gardeners and groundskeepers keep it beautiful, and they do an amazing job.
