Ramadan: A Month of Fasting and Community

The start and end of Ramadan are decided by seeing the crescent moon. The crescent moon is the thin, curved moon that follows a new moon, when the moon can’t be seen in the sky.

The calendar used for Ramadan is based on the moon instead of the sun, so it happens at a different time each year on our calendar. During Ramadan, daily life follows the sun, for people eat only after the sun sets.
