On the way back toward the university, I pass a fun area with surprise treats. There is a souvenir shop with a sweets stall outside. One time they sold waffles, another time Moroccan pastries, and once they even had cotton candy. Sometimes there is also a babbouche stall nearby, and there is also a honey and butter shop that gives out free samples.
After shopping, I make sure I have coins ready to pay for a taxi back to campus. I’ve learned some Darija words to help me get around.
“Bshhaal?” means “How much?” and sounds like "bush hall."
“Shukran” means “Thank you,” and sounds like "shoe cran."
I ask the driver to take me to “Campus” or “Al Akhawayn,” and then I pay with coins when we arrive.
