My Experience with Italian Food

Introduction:

Being able to experience my host country while remaining at home was such an eye-opening experience. I learned about the types of food Italians eat in their country and how they prepare the food through a cultural workshop course. Founders Martina Brunellazzo and Alessandro Lasferza, of è Cucina, a professional cooking school located in Verona, Italy, taught cooking lessons in the workshops, helping my peers and me better understand Italian culture.

What food did I try?:

The first food I decided to try was gnocchi. I wanted to prepare my gnocchi to experience what it is like to live in Italy and prepare Italian food. In addition to gnocchi, I tried tiramisù--a dessert made with coffee. I love coffee myself, so I found the dessert to be both amazing and delicious.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I felt more connected to my host country than ever before. To be able to experience the Italian culture in my own home was amazing. Despite the pandemic, I was still able to experience what Italy is all about. I had tried gnocchi before in soup when I was at Olive Garden. Olive Garden is known for its Italian cuisine, but I was a little bummed out when I cooked it myself because it didn't taste the same as I had it before.
