Traveler Bio

Moin! My name is Kenzie Hughes, and I'm from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I'm 22 years old and just graduated in May 2026 from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. I studied International Studies, an interdisciplinary major that consists of political science, history, economics, and a foreign language--I chose German.

My love for other languages and cultures began in my high school German class at Mount Lebanon High School. During my sophomore year, I went on an exchange year to Germany with the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange. Then, during my sophomore year of college, I studied abroad for a year at the University of Cologne. My time studying in Cologne inspired my senior thesis, which investigated the impact of far-right populist rhetoric on vocational education and training reform in Western Europe.

This year, I'm living in Hannover, a city of about half a million people in central Northern Germany, and teaching at a secondary school in Nienburg, 30 miles northwest. I'm excited to share my everyday life in Germany with you! Let's explore this wonderful language and culture together.
