Animals have always been an interest of mine. Growing up I loved reading books about exotic creatures, looking at the photos, and learning new facts. As I grew up my love of animals only grew stronger! I knew I wanted to find a way to work with animals, I just wasn’t sure how I would do that yet.

After high school, I went to college to study photography. While in school I learned a lot of new skills like how to develop my own film and how to print pictures in a darkroom. I also had incredible teachers who taught me about all the different kinds of jobs that photographers can do. There are so many different types of photographers! To name just a few types, some photographers specialize in portraits (like the photographer who takes your picture on school picture day), some work with journalists to cover the news, and some even take beautiful artistic photos. I started thinking of what kind of photographer I wanted to be.

I started looking for jobs where I could use my photography to help people and animals. While working in Madagascar for a conservation institute that studies the unique and endangered animals that call Madagascar home, I learned that photography is a very important tool in the conservation of a lot of creatures.
