When in Venice . . .

Introduction:

Before flying out, a classmate told me that "If you don't get lost in Venice, you didn't do it right." Having now experienced the city for myself, I have to agree. While it is good to have an itinerary, budgeting time to simply follow your intuition is definitely an essential element of visiting Venice. There are countless alleyways to cut through and bridges to cross, each of which lead you to discover new cafes and restaurants. The majority of places are independent, local spots who display their menu(s) outside for potential diners to peruse as they walk by. Outdoor seating is also common, offering a chance to make the most of the pleasant weather.

What food did I try?:

The first meal I had after landing was a margherita pizza. It was my "safe" option to start my time in a new country where the menu was written in a language I did not fully understand. I have had many margherita pizzas back at home and once since being here in London, so I decided to order one in Venice to see what an authentic Italian one tasted like.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Trying that first bite was honestly healing. After traveling all day, I was quite hungry and needed a solid meal to boost my energy again.
