One of the New Seven Natural Wonders of the World

The sound vibrations are so intense! You can feel the mist spray your face as the water plunges and then rises up to about 490 feet!

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

Some of the most rare species found at Iguazu Falls include the giant anteater, harpy eagle and South American wildcats, such as the jaguar, puma, ocelot and margay. Most of these animals prefer to stay out of sight, but there are so many trails you could hike in Iguazu National Park that it's very possible you might spot one of these animals that lives around the waterfalls.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

I can imagine that it's difficult to enforce all rules and regulations in national parks to help take care of this natural area. In addition, locals near Iguazu Falls have to adapt to living amongst a growing tourist attraction because their natural environment is changing. The industry of tourism (hotels and restaurants) tends to push out locals and attract tourists. As global tourism becomes increasingly widespread, more and more people each year are going to consider traveling to iconic places, such as "one of the new seven natural wonders of the world."  As a tourist surrounded by so many sources of water flow and bright green trees, I felt calm and peaceful on the relaxed, uncrowded tour on the Argentina side of the Falls. However, last year, in March, there were so many people on the Brazil side of Iguazu Falls that there was no room to walk without bumping into other people. The tour on the Brazil side was amazing, but I hope that the high number of tourists visiting Iguazu Falls will never be as high as it was before the pandemic hit.
