A Taste of Porto, Portugal

Introduction:

When we are at sea, I eat on the ship with my shipmates in a dining area. The food on the ship has been really good, and meal times are always great opportunity to meet new people, enjoy the amazing ocean views out of the window and just relax. Since leaving the Netherlands, we've been settling in and acclimating to life at sea. But we recently made out first stop in Porto, Portugal, which gave me a chance to explore a new country by trying some of its incredible food!

What food did I try?:

On our first day in Porto, my friends and I visited a local market and shopped for some veggies for dinner. There was so much beautiful produce to choose from. I also spotted some fresh fruit at the market and had to stop. I ended up trying some of the best fresh mango I've ever had! At a different market, I was able to see the central role that seafood plays in Portugese cuisine. I watched a vendor preparing fish, oysters and other very fresh seafood items for sale.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I really enjoyed visiting an amazing family-owned restaurant, too, where I tried a more authentic Portugese dish that included pork, roasted vegetables and potatoes. After our meal at the restaurant, my friends and I got to pet the family's dogs!

How is the food prepared?:

I couldn't visit Portugal and miss the chance to try its famous pastry: Pastel de Nada!
