Temperatures stayed in the mid- to high-80s, but sun, humidity, long garments and outdoor activities made it feel much hotter. Despite the heat, every day was beautiful and sunny. Each day tufts of cotton-candy clouds drifted slowly across bright blue skies and once, after the passing of a warm-gentle rain, a round rainbow appeared to crown the sky. Nights were warm and rainy. Crocodiles! Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia, is a brown body of water bordered by reed beds and capped by a sprawling “floating village.” As in any village, town or city, there is a center, where people come together to meet, buy goods and exchange ideas. While most village centers feature shops firmly planted on the ground, the village center of Tonle Sap Lake floats feet above the lake bed and is home to around 30 crocodiles, some of the lake’s other inhabitants.
