I traveled to the Mayange district, which is the poorest part of Rwanda. I got to see how other countries have helped this village build roads, schools and small businesses that will raise money for the community.
I have traveled to the city of Huye (pronounced hoo-yay) in the Southern Province of Rwanda which takes about three hours by car. It is very rural compared to Kigali, but much like Kentucky. Many people make their living by agricultural businesses.
I take the bus each day to and from school. Not the school bus as you know it, but by buses provided by public transportation. We do not have many of them in Kentucky. It takes quite a while to get around the city this way because there are not many buses circulating at one time. A trip that may only take 20 minutes can end up taking more than an hour because of the wait time!
The most interesting place that I visited this week was a primary school in the Mayange district just outside of Kigali City. There are over 2,000 students in the school, and there are 75-100 students in each class! School is so different for these students compared to how you and I know it.
