Schnitzel: The Unoffical Sandwich of Namibia

Introduction:

Namibia was owned by Germany for many years. There are still many German dishes available in Namibia. Here is an example of a common dish, schnitzel.

What food did I try?:

I tried a chicken schnitzel sandwich.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I felt a little nervous, because I get sick if food is not cooked well. Once I saw that the meat is cooked, I relaxed and enjoyed the yummy sandwich!

How is the food prepared?:

Meat is pounded so it is thin. When it is thin, the meat is dipped into a batter of egg and  breadcrumbs. Then the schnitzel is cooked in a hot frying pan. In Namibia, schnitzel it is served in a sandwich, with a sauce that is a mixture of mustard, mayonnaise and sweet chili sauce.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Schnitzel sandwiches shows how German culture has mixed with native African culture in Namibia. You have a common German dish which uses the flavor of sweet chili sauce which is native to Southern Africa. Schnitzel is found in many restaurants and cities in Namibia. Also, I eat schnitzel because it helps me break change for taxis!
