Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I didn't travel very far this week. I traveled about 75 minutes, from Palestina to Salcajá, to see my friend Katie. To get back, it took about another 75 minutes, so in total I travelled about two and a half hours.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have spent at least 62 hours traveling so far. That includes my flight from Minnesota to Florida for Peace Corps staging, which is two days of informational sessions and meeting your group of volunteers before leaving for the country, and my flight from Florida to Guatemala. The 62 hours also includes bus rides during training, bus rides for field trips, bus rides for day trips on the weekends, bus rides for my site visits, bus rides from the Peace Corps office to Palestina and back, bus rides and car rides from when my family visited me and we went to Antigua, one of the most famous cities in Guatemala, known for its colonial architecture (buildings that were built when Spain colonized Guatemala). As you can see, I spend a lot of my time here on buses!

How did I get around this week?:

Everyday I walk to work because I live about two minutes away from the health center. I also sometimes ride in my socia's (work partner's) car when we need to get to different aldeas (small communities) around Palestina for work.
