Our News

What activity was the most fun this week?:

This week I got to meet two prospective volunteers from the newest group of Peace Corps Guatemala volunteers. This means that they are still in training and have not been officially sworn in, or officially confirmed, as volunteers yet, as they still have a month of pre-service training to go. One of my site-mates, Benjamin, is a youth and development volunteer, and Chris and Seth are part of the same program, so they came to see us in Palestina. Site visits are an important part of training, as they give you a chance to see what daily life can look like as a volunteer and to check out the types of work people in your same program are doing! We showed them all around Palestina; took them to our one pizza place, Monkey Pizza; taught them a popular card game amongst Guatemala volunteers, Cambio (change); and Ben took them to the schools he works at. It was fun to be on the other side of site visits this time, as a visitee and not a visitor!

What did I read this week?:

I have been reading the newest Hunger Games Prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, and I am obsessed! Has anyone else read any of the books in the Hunger Games series? If so, which book is your favorite? I remember reading most of the series in the sixth grade and being hooked. After a long day of speaking in Spanish at work and with my host family, it’s nice to decompress with some English reading before I go to bed. This helps me recharge and prepare to speak Spanish the next day.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I have been trying to find a women’s soccer team to join, but in the meantime, I have been doing lots of running!
