Galleta greets me every morning when I leave for my run and every evening when I come home from work. Her little, excited tail wags always brighten my day.
When I was visiting my friend Katie (my almost-name twin) we went for a walk to and around Cerro El Baúl (the Barrel Hill) which is a forested national park in Xela that has an awesome view overlooking the valley of Quetzaltenango. Quetzaltenango is the department in which Xela and Palestina are located. A department is kind of like a state. We saw four bluebirds. They were beautiful!
Weather can play a big role in our day to day lives. Last week and the beginning of this week we had no power in our health center, which means no light, no electricity to charge devices, and no wifi! We were using our phone flashlights to talk to patients. I’m pretty sure a fuse was blown or a cord was damaged, and that this was due to the storms we’re currently experiencing because of rainy season. Today I am super happy because we have light again! It’s hard not to get super sleepy and to do effective work when trying to work in the dark…but we powered through (pun not intended).
