Annyeong: Hello and Goodbye

Biyangdo is known for having a lot of these three things: rocks, wind and women. Because there are so many women, women contribute to the gathering of seafood. But, instead of fishing, women called "Haenyeo" dive into the ocean to pick crustaceans. They are known for having orange buoys to hold what they catch, so you can see them from the coast. We ate a lot of food, including bread made with sea snails called "Bomal." It was really yummy! We went to see the ocean a lot that day, and also did an outdoor photo booth where the ocean acted as the background.

The next day, we went to a bracelet-making workshop near our accommodations. Orange and blue is my favorite color combination, so I added a small tangerine charm onto mine. However, the afternoon was the highlight of that day. The owner of our accommodations took us "Hole Fishing." On Jeju Island, some beaches are made of sand, but others are made of volcanic rocks. We went down to the shore and put our fishing hooks in the holes between the rocks to catch fish. Walking on the volcanic rocks was very difficult, and I did end up falling, but I caught 13 fish in an hour! I was never good at fishing, but somehow I almost beat the record for the most fish out of the same hole on that shore! We then took the fish we caught to a restaurant, where they roasted some of them and turned the rest into sashimi. We ate it with fresh vegetables that we picked from the owner's friend's farm. It was such a fun trip!

I wouldn't have been able to experience any of this if I hadn't come to South Korea and to Jeju Island. I never knew I could do so many diverse things in one weekend. I hope you get the chance to travel and experience all of the fun things I did and more!
