When I arrived in Australia, one of the first things I had to do was go to my college's orientation. This is where students can get helpful information about the school and life in Australia. It's also a great opportunity to make some friends. I checked in, grabbed my name tag and found out I was on Team Vegemite. My team leader greeted me by saying how are you going' I was a little confused. What was he asking? I thought maybe he was asking how I was getting to the orientation events. I responded "Oh, I was just planning on walking" and he started laughing. It turns out that how are you going? is Australian slang and means how are you? That was the first time Aussie (Australian) slang confused me. I've come across other interesting Australian phrases, too.

For example, once orientation ended and classes began, I met some Australian friends and learned more slang terms. How are you going s'arvo means how are you this afternoon? Cobber refers to a good or long-term friend. Mate can be also be used to describe a friend.

While clothes shopping, I've also come across a few different terms.
