Semana Santa was spring break for me here in Spain and I had time off from school from March 27th to April 6th. My mom came to visit and we traveled to different cities in Morocco and Spain.
Our first stop was in Marrakech, Morocco, where we met to leave on a desert tour. The tour took us through the high Atlas Mountains, some of which are over 13,000 feet tall and were still covered in snow! We stopped in many different places on our way to the Saharan Desert of eastern Morocco. We got to see how argan oil is made by local women artisans, walked through the ancient village of Aït Benhaddou that has been used as a movie set for The Gladiator and Game of Thrones, hiked through a deep canyon with clear spring water, and trekked through the tall and orange dunes of the Saharan Desert to a camp. It was so interesting to learn about the Moroccan culture and environment, and see how people live there on a daily basis.
After Morocco, we flew to Málaga, Spain, which is a coastal city on the very southern tip of the country.
