Semana Santa in Morocco and Spain

Here, we visited the beautiful beaches that meet the Mediterranean Sea and I introduced my mom to traditional Spanish food like bocadillos (a type of sandwich on a baguette) and tortilla de España (an egg and potato pancake, sometimes made with onion). We also went on a bus tour of the city and learned about its history of trade and Roman influence, and walked through the Carmen-Thyssen art museum in the historic city center. Málaga is in Andalucía, Spain, and it is such a vibrant city with so many things to do!

Finally, we took a train to Toledo, Spain, to see the ancient town and observe Easter weekend processions. We walked around the town and looked at the river and historic buildings from different viewing points. On Easter Sunday, we went to the main plaza and followed a procession celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the bible. There were beautifully carved wooden floats of Jesus and the Virgin Mary, celebratory live music, and a full parade of important religious figures from the town. Afterwards, we took a tour of the main cathedral in the town, which is full of sculptures and carvings detailed in gold. Toledo was a town where Christians, Jews, and Muslims all coexisted together in ancient history and the religious ceremonies held there today are mesmerizing to watch!

My break was restful and I got to explore so many new parts of the world. I hope you enjoyed reading about my adventures, and happy spring!
