With a population of 1.48 billion, India serves as the cradle for four of the world's major religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. The nation also hosts a significant Muslim population of approximately 200 million. This field note, however, focuses on Hinduism, the faith practiced by nearly 79.8% of the population or roughly 1.1 billion people. During my travels, I visited various Hindu temples and learned how deeply this religion is woven into the fabric of daily life.
I focused on the significance of Hindu temples and the practice of visiting them to offer prayers to specific deities, each chosen for their unique attributes. I particularly explored the roles of Shiva and Krishna, two prominent figures in the Hindu pantheon who represent a virtue or characteristic.
