This week I only traveled a few miles around Dunedin. I live close to the university, so I can walk to class and to the geology department where I study.
To get to Dunedin, I took three flights. I flew from New York to Dallas, then from Dallas to Auckland, and finally from Auckland to Dunedin on the South Island. It was a long journey across the world - around 9,500 miles!
I usually walk everywhere in Dunedin. I can walk to campus and to the grocery store.
When I visited Tunnel Beach, I traveled by car. One interesting difference here is that people drive on the left side of the road. The steering wheel is on the right side of the car. It feels very different from driving in the United States and when I get into a car here, I still frequently get in on the wrong side!
The most interesting place I visited this week was Tunnel Beach. To reach it, you hike down a steep path and then walk through a hand-carved tunnel that leads to the ocean. When you come out of the tunnel, you are surrounded by tall sandstone cliffs and crashing waves.
