Our News

Known as Eid al-Fitr worldwide, or Hari Raya in Malaysia and a few other countries, this religious holiday celebrates the end of Ramadan, the fasting month for Muslims. During Ramadan, Muslims fast every day from sunrise to sunset and spend their time focusing on religion and prayer. They cannot eat or drink, but there are exceptions for the elderly, the ill and those who are menstruating. Hari Raya is the first day after Ramadan when Muslims no longer have to fast. It is, therefore, a holiday full of joy! For my school's Hari Raya celebration, each homeroom prepared a meal, and then the entire school came together in the assembly hall to sit on mats and eat food together.

What did I read this week?:

I read news articles about the U.S. to keep up with what's happening back home. Since 2020 is an election year, I want to stay informed about politics in America.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I coached a baseball team. Since part of my job is to teach students about America, I decided to teach them one of America's favorite sports: baseball! We played a modified version of the game that required only two outs for each inning. Who's your favorite baseball team?

Other news from this week:

Did you know that Malaysia has sultans as its rulers? This is some sad news from earlier this year. The former sultan of Pahang died in May. Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah ibni Al Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mu'adzam Shah was 88 years old and had been ill for some time. Because of his illness, his son became sultan earlier this year.
