The Graceful Green Giant: Copenhagen’s Weeping Willow

You can spot their iconic silhouettes in parks like The King's Garden (Kongens Have) or around the city’s many lakes.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

The Weeping Willow is a water-lover! Its roots are super-spongy and seek out moisture, which helps prevent soil erosion along riverbanks. Its long, flexible branches can sway wildly in storms without breaking. It’s perfectly adapted to Denmark’s rainy climate and watery landscapes.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

In Denmark, these trees are doing just fine! They are planted here on purpose and are well-suited to the climate. The main thing that can harm them is a long drought (since they love water so much) or very severe storms. But overall, we don’t have to worry about them. They're happy, healthy, and adding beauty to our city!
