This week, I bought and started reading a poetry book that contains poems written in Spanish and Portuguese. The book is about translation and finding common ground across cultures. Though I don’t know any Portuguese, it is very cool to see the similarities in the two languages!
I played Scrabble, Uno and Lotería (a Mexican game similar to bingo) with my students in my English class. I lost all games but one round of Uno, but it was still very fun nevertheless!
The 30th of April was El Día del Niño (Children’s Day), and we celebrated by watching movies, playing games and eating snacks at school. There was also an event in the center of Todos Santos to honor and celebrate children. We got Friday off of school to celebrate as well!
May 5th is also a national holiday, La Batalla de Puebla (Battle of Puebla). This day marks a battle that happened in 1862, where a smaller Mexican army successfully beat a much larger French army that was invading Mexico. This victory delayed French armies from further invading Mexico. We also got the day off of school on Monday in honor of this holiday.
