The best meal I had this week was quesabirria (a type of slowly braised meat, commonly in an adobo sauce) tacos from a restaurant that served birria in the style from the state of Jalisco, where birria first began. Though a drink and not a meal, a close second was this raspado, a slushie-style drink. I always choose the limón con chile flavor (lime with tajin and chamoy). The drink is sweet and a bit spicy. Raspados always hit the spot on a hot, desert day!
I have been listening to a lot of music recently, including some favorites from across Latin America like Feid, Bad Bunny, Ivan Cornejo and Fuerza Regida. However, since arriving in Mexico, I have also learned about artists like Caloncho, Jorge Drexler, Danny Ocean and Jombriel.
I also listened to "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, "California Love" by Tupac and "Let’s Groove" by Earth, Wind, & Fire. I work with a few art classes, and they are currently learning about dance. They like to dance to American music, so they performed a dance to each of those songs.
During my visit to La Paz, I was lucky enough to stumble on a folklórico (folklore) show where local dance studios performed different styles of folklórico. Each state has its own unique style of dance, dress and music for folklórico. I loved watching the performances and seeing the differences between each of the states that were featured.
