Today I sat down with four students, who are in their final year of primary school, here in Southern Belize and asked them all kinds of questions about their lives. All four of them play on either the school soccer or volleyball team, and one even plays on both! Meet Justin, Santiago, Britney, and Geraldine, and learn a little more about life in Belize!
A typical day of meals for Santiago starts with coffee and bread for breakfast, followed by a typical Belizean lunch of rice and beans for lunch and tortillas with beans for dinner. Justin follows a similar schedule, starting his day with bread with chocolate or other pastries, but skips the coffee. For lunch he also has rice and beans, but upgrades his dinner of beans and tortillas by adding hotdogs, as well.
Britney and Geraldine both start the day with coffee, but while Geraldine drinks her coffee with bread, Britney usually has pancakes with strawberry jam or honey. For lunch rice and chicken is common, and sometimes soup, which is also served with rice. For dinner, they also have beans and tortillas, which is a very typical dinner for many people.
