On Sunday, February 23rd, I went with my group of friends (we call ourselves the Salchipapas) to go watch a football (soccer) match live. This is traditional to do because in Galicia, many people in the region go to their city's stadium to watch a match. Football is a deep part of the culture here. The two teams that were competing was RC Deportivo and Celta Vigo (Division B). If you don't watch football often, think of Divison B as second place. And yes, I'm not using the word soccer at all for this article. Galicians get a little upset when you don't use the word football.
We took the bus to A Coruña bright and early in the morning from Lugo. It was our group's first trip together! When we arrived, we were quite hungry because some of us didn't eat breakfast. We found a Venezuelan restaurant where they sold delicious arepas. Arepas are made of maíz (corn) and they're flat. The cook made it into a sandwich with delicious Venezuelan cheese and plátano (plantain) between the two arepas. I haven't seen plantain at all in Lugo, so I was thrilled to eat it again. A plantain and a banana look similiar, but they don't taste the same at all. You also can't eat a plantain raw. You have to cook it, and you have the choice between frying it or baking it.
