Autobiography

I was lucky enough to receive this grant to study in Finland for two years to earn the fastest degree available here.

In August, I moved to Lappeenranta, on the eastern side of Finland, and I started my master's program classes in September. One of the reasons I applied to Finland for my Fulbright grant is because of how sustainable this country is. Finland treasures nature and believes it is humanity's job to protect it. They have many practices designed to cherish the nature around them and to ensure they protect the environment. They also have a sustainable, renewable way they obtain resources and energy throughout the country. These reasons, along with this brand new master's program that my university, LUT, started this past fall, are why I applied to Finland.

I have been learning Finnish culture and the language, how to treasure the environment as they do and how to adapt my ways to be more sustainable. I have always loved travel and wanted to live abroad, which I am now doing while obtaining my master's degree. Traveling is such a fantastic experience that allows you to learn a lot. Similar to traveling within the United States, you can learn from the new areas you are going to as you experience new things. By traveling abroad, you can do this in a more extreme sense, allowing you to learn about different cultures, try new food and see things you have never seen before. These are some reasons why I try to fully immerse myself in the areas I travel, even if it’s just for a short time.
