This week, I travelled quite a lot. I hiked up the same mountain twice in the span of 7 days. On Friday, my friends and I walked from the port town of Mojiko to the town of Shimonoseki through a walkway tunnel under the ocean. In total, I would guess that I have taken more than 200 thousand steps this week.
I've been in Japan for 6 months so far, in that time I've ridden ferries across oceans to cat islands (islands in Japan that have more cats than people), flown to Tokyo by plane, taken trips to countryside towns by Shinkansen and JR trains, explored cities by taxi, carhopped with friends I've made along the way, and taken millions of footsteps.
This week I walked mostly, but I took a few trains to get between towns.
I think the most interesting place I went to this week was the beautiful shoreline of Itoshima. In fact, Itoshima is the Pufferfish capital of the world, where people pay luxurious prices for a chance to eat this deadly fish. The palm trees by the wooden boardwalk, watching shipping boats go by under a massive bridge, next to a massive glass aquarium and amusement park, reminded me of a place like California.
