Monthly Trips for International Students

Introduction:

A fundamental part of my Irish experience abroad has been learning about other people and visiting lots of historic places around Ireland. Fortunately, all universities in Ireland have the goal of creating monthly trips to accomplish just that for their international students. It's incredibly difficult to attend these trips due to capacity limits, but last month I was invited on a trip to explore Avondale Forest Park and Kilkenny city, historic parts of Ireland. It was quite the experience!

What tradition did I learn about?:

I was quite surprised to learn that colleges here provide trips to various places around Ireland because I imagined it would be too expensive to do so. I didn't even know that my school offered these trips until I received an invitation to participate in one.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

Irish universities take international students around the country so they can experience what it is truly like to be Irish. Universities aren't the only institutions with this goal of helping people from far away to learn more about life in Ireland. In Dublin, there are buses with advertisements that encourage people to take tours around Ireland to learn about Irish culture and indicate how to participate in these tours.
