Ahoj (it sounds like "ahoy," and means "hello" in Slovak)! My name’s Jack. I’m 22 years old, and spent my childhood in Dallas, Texas. I enjoy photography, hiking, trying new foods, and exploring the amazing world we all share. I went to college at Denison University, a small school in Ohio. College was the first time I called another city home. My sophomore year of college, I took my first class in international relations, where we learned how different countries interact with each other. Taking that class sparked my interest in experiencing different cultures, people, landscapes, and lifestyles. Last year, I spent five months in Switzerland studying the energy and environmental policy of Central Europe. When I returned home, I knew I wanted to live, learn, and work in Europe after graduating college in May. This year, I recieved a Fulbright English Teaching Assistanship grant to teach English to high schoolers in the small town of Rimavská Sobota, Slovakia. Slovakia is a small landlocked country in the heart of Central Europe, around the size of West Virginia. I chose to come to Slovakia for multiple reasons. My research certainly played a part, but Slovakia also offers diverse geography, unique culture and traditions, and some of the friendliest people I've ever met. I cannot wait to dive into what makes this country special over the next ten months. I look forward to sharing my journey, and learning more about you all!
