Before arriving, I mostly thought about traditional French dishes, but I've discovered that Paris has food from so many different parts of the world. It has made exploring the city even more exciting!
One of the things I find interesting about crêpes is how they're made. Crêpes start with a thin batter made from ingredients including flour, eggs, milk and butter. The batter is poured onto a hot, flat cooking surface and spread into a large, thin circle. After cooking, the crêpe can be filled with different ingredients and folded before being served.
Sweet crêpes can include chocolate spread, fruit, sugar or other toppings. Savory crêpes can include ingredients such as ham, cheese, and eggs. I love that you can customize them depending on your preferences.
Other traditional French foods have their own unique preparation methods. For example, escargot is commonly prepared with garlic and parsley butter, while steak frites combines a cooked steak with crispy French fries. Even something as simple as a baguette requires careful preparation and baking to create its crispy outside and soft inside.
Absolutely! Food is a big part of everyday life in Paris, and you can see that just by walking around the city. Bakeries are everywhere, and it's common to see people stopping by to pick up fresh bread or pastries. Seeing people walk through the streets carrying baguettes is something I had always associated with France, but now I get to see it in real life!
