I have been amazed at how friendly and warm the people are in Paraguay. They are always very eager to start a conversation and ask where I am from! I have really enjoyed spending time talking to the locals and getting to learn more about their backgrounds. Everyone here is also very interested in the United States, and they ask me many questions. Most people in Paraguay have not visited the USA, since it is so far away! However, they all tell me that they would love to visit New York, Florida and California in particular. I think it is because they have seen many photos and heard much about these places on TV and in the news.
Paraguay is very well known for beef. Since there are so many cows here, the cattle industry is very important. Becuase of this, everyone loves eating red meat! The citizens are all very proud of their meat, and they normally have asados. Asados are similar to barbecues in the US, but they are much more common. People will have them any day of the week, and at any time of the year.
An asado will normally start around 9 or 10 PM, and people will start arriving anywhere between 10-11 PM. There is always a special grill where they cook many different types of red meat. Normally at these events, meat is the only thing that people eat.
