Introducing My Hungarian Friend Kata

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

I like my own style. I wear lots of skirts and elements from fantasy, but they are still modern. (I think she looks straight out of a fairytale!)

What do you like to do in your free time?:

I like to draw, make tiny trinkets with clay and do embroidery. I also like watching movies and sometimes reading.

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

My native language is Hungarian but I can also speak English. I have forgotten German.

Do you have pets?:

I have two lovely cats, Mica and Nyina. One is a British short hair and the other is a tortoiseshell. They are tiny goblins!

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

My first big trip was when I was nine and I travelled to Zanzibar, which is an island next to Africa. It was a whole different world. I saw ocean hedgehogs (what Hungarians call sea urchins) and I saw giant turtles. I also ate real coconuts and they tasted very different from coconut here. I have also travelled to the Austrian Christmas markets, to Slovakia and to Florence, Italy.  And this year I went to Albania and England!

What do you do for work?:

Currently I am doing art commissions. I used to make YouTube videos for mental health knowledge. I have also worked on animated short films and a few have won awards at festivals.

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

I hope you find joy in learning about different places but also loving your home at the same time.
